tom anderson Tom Anderson has been the Curriculum Director for the Collingswood, New Jersey public schools since 1985. Tom completed the VHS Teachers Learning Conference (TLC) and developed and taught the VHS course, Lewis and Clark Expedition. He is currently teaching AP Government.

Ernest Hasselbrink, Jr. is a Vice President at First Marblehead Corporation, an education finance company in Boston, where he has led analytics teams supporting approximately $10B of financings.  Prior to that, he was a tenure-track professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), and a researcher at Sandia National Laboratories.  He has published over 20 refereed journal articles and several U.S. patents. 

chuck olsenChuck Olson is a partner at LTGO where he works with firms who develop educational technology, such as Zeus Learning in Mumbai, India. Chuck's product vision has been instrumental in the development of numerous educational software products. Previously, as CEO of LTG, he grew the company and produced products for Simon & Schuster companies, spanning k-college, including Prentice Hall's ground breaking Interactive Math series.

denise goodwin paceDenise Goodwin Pace is a Partner at The Halo Group, a marketing communications agency with offices in New York City and Long Island, New York. Before founding Halo in 1994, Denise spent over 20 years in the communications field, including positions in journalism.

liz papeLiz Pape is a renowned author and speaker who has more than 15 years of experience helping K-12 schools to develop a 21st century learning model. She is CEO of Virtual High School (VHS), pioneers of online learning for high school students and online course design for teachers. Under her management, VHS has grown from 28 member schools and 30 classes offered to over 650 member schools and 325 teachers in 33 states and 32 countries. She has served on the Board of Directors of the North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL), Blackboard Idea Exchange Steering Committee, and DOME (Diversity and Outreach in Mathematics and Engineering) Foundation. Dr. Suellen ReedSuellen Reed is Vice President for Business Development for Ross, Sinclaire and Associates, a regional, full-service securities brokerage and investment banking firm dedicated to innovative strategies and superior client service. Suellen was Indiana’s longest-serving and first female chief state school officer. As the state’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Suellen served as the CEO of the Indiana Department of Education, Chairperson of the State Board of Education and Co-Chair of Indiana’s Education Roundtable among other responsibilities. Suellen shaped major educational reform initiatives during her tenure as state superintendent, including Indiana’s well-regarded academic standards, student assessments and school accountability system. She has also traveled widely, visiting schools throughout the world in an effort to expand international connections and educational opportunities. Prior to becoming state superintendent, Suellen served as a teacher at the elementary, middle and high school levels, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and local superintendent

sue scottSue Scott is a Policy and Research Analyst for the NC Virtual Public School. She has been working in Distance Learning for the last 15 years. A major portion of her current responsibilities revolves around keeping NCVPS (all staff member interact virtually) attuned to the work of divisions and programs of the NC Department of Public Instruction and NC State Board of Education. NC Distance Learning Systems was an early adopter of VHS course offerings and the consortia model in 1999. However, NCVPS now develops all courses and employs 350 teachers each semester and for summer school. From Summer 2009 to Spring 2010, 74,000 online credits were earned by NC students through the offerings of NCVPS.

Barbara Stein Barbara Stein manages technology partnerships and policies, as well as K-12 online learning issues, at the 3.2 million member National Education Association. She facilitates NEA’s work with the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, and she also leads a team at NEA that is incorporating the 21st century skills and approach programmatically throughout the organization and affiliates. She currently serves on the board of COSN (the Consortium for School Networking) and as secretary of the NCTET (the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training.)

robert tinkerRobert Tinker has, for thirty-five years, pioneered innovative approaches to education that exploit the power of technology. In 1995, he started the nonprofit Concord Consortium to focus on educational technologies. His group originated the idea of using sensors in student learning investigations, pioneered online collaborative student projects, and and co-founded the VHS. His current work involves supporting guided inquiry with open-ended tools. Bob earned his PhD in experimental low temperature physics from MIT and has taught college physics for ten years.

holden watermanHolden Waterman is Associate Professor and Director of the Asian Studies Outreach Program at the University of Vermont. Dr. Waterman has served as Superintendent of schools in East Windsor and Salem in Connecticut as well as Windham Central Supervisory Union and Milton Town School District in Vermont.
