Pre-Advanced Placement courses are designed to bring students "back on track" for success in courses of advanced study, thus enabling a broader segment of the student population to benefit from a rich and rigorous curriculum. Pre-AP courses teach and reinforce crucial academic and study skills to help *all* students strengthen their background in a subject prior to taking an AP course. For those students thinking about taking an AP course in the future, including students who have not previously taken or excelled in honors level classes, Pre-AP courses provide essential preparation. For example, a student who did not excel in a traditional preparatory class such as Honors Chemistry, as well as a student who has not taken an honors level course, would both benefit from taking Introduction to Chemistry prior to enrolling in AP Chemistry. Pre-AP courses are designed to help students master, in a concentrated time-frame and using the best application of key concepts, the specific skills and "habits of mind" necessary for successful participation in subsequent Advanced Placement courses. Please refer to the VHS Catalog for a complete list of current Pre-AP course offerings.
