Becoming an Online Teacher

Course Overview:

This is the capstone course in the five course series for Certification in Online Teaching and Learning. To take the capstone course, you must first successfully complete the other four courses within the Best Practices course series.

Moving from teaching in a face-to-face environment to teaching students online is not simply a matter of changing mediums; it also means changing instructional methodologies. In this six week course, participants will have the opportunity to experience online teaching by partnering with an online master teacher in an established middle or high school online course. Through observation, reflection and active participation in the online classroom environment, the participant will first partner with the master teacher to deliver instruction and then fully assume online classroom responsibilities.

In this six week course, participants will be required to complete the required readings and engage in meaningful dialog with their peers. Participants are asked to log into this course at least twice a week and submit written work, as required. In addition, learners are expected to become fully engaged in their practicum experience by logging into their assigned online classroom at least four times a week and working with their master teacher.
