Our professional development training offerings for Teachers and Site Coordinators allow VHS students to work in a supported environment in which they are able to select from a pool of experienced teachers who not only have instructional expertise, but who have completed the "gold standard" in professional development for online instructors. Through participation in VHS, schools have also made better use of their existing technology in educationally sound ways. These efforts have been recognized by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse, which decided in 2002, that the core academic courses offered by VHS are approved for initial eligibility of students wishing to participate in college athletics. Our innovative online education was also recognized by an international jury and awarded the Stockholm Challenge Award 2001, which recognizes projects that make good use of information technology and result in a positive impact on people's lives. VHS offers a wide variety of innovative, student-centered courses, which engage students in their learning.
