For the next 45 minutes, Natalie researches Gandhi's life on the web and also discusses some of her findings with another student at her local high school who is also taking the same VHS course. She types some notes in an Assignment document, which is private to herself (and her teacher). She'll use her notes later when she creates her contribution to the class list of key points. As she does some research, she also adds notes to a list of ideas and web sites she is collecting to use later in deciding on the topic for her final project.

Natalie also takes some time to look at an essay draft that she'd submitted to her teacher for review last week. Her teacher has reviewed the work and her comments are shown in red. Natalie still has a week to incorporate her teacher's comments before she needs to finish the paper and submit it for a grade.
During the class period, the VHS site coordinator comes in and wanders around, checking in briefly with each student. The site coordinator asks Natalie how she's doing. It's been a little while since Natalie last checked her progress, so she takes a few minutes to go to the Grades area of the course to look at her private portfolio. The gradebook lists all of the work she has done along with grades and teacher's comments, and a cumulative grade for the course. Natalie prints out a copy of her grades for her site coordinator.
