Jill has a free-period during the day because she is teaching a VHS course. During this time she focuses on her online course with limited interruption. Jill logs into her course using the computer that is in her classroom because her course is stored in Blackboard® which allows teachers to access the course from any computer at anytime through the web-based application. Jill is not software savvy, but through VHS NIM professional development training, Jill learned how to manage her course within the Blackboard environment.
This morning, Jill wants to focus on fine-tuning next week's assignment. She will soon make the assignment available for those students who want to get an early start. She plans to have the students pair-up and start working on a long-term group project. The lesson centers on gathering and comparing regional information, so she purposefully partners students from different states and countries when she creates the teams. Using her teacher Control Panel she can put students into teams by the Manage Groups feature. After she creates teams, the students will be able to meet in discussion areas that can be accessed and edited only by the other members of the team and the teacher.
