Description:
Psychology - An Introduction is really a class to introduce you to yourself! We'll be looking at various aspects of our psyche and see what makes us tick. Each student will be required to complete weekly journal entries and participate in daily class discussions.

Special attention will be given to operant and classical conditioning, psychological disorders and their treatments as well as human behavior and debunking myths about the paranormal and psychology in general. This introductory class is designed to very interactive with students sharing their reflections and personal thoughts with the rest of the class on a weekly basis.

*This course may be appropriate for Gifted and Talented middle school students that meet all course prerequisites.*

2. will become familiar with various approaches used in psychology, including behaviorism, functionalism, psychoanalysis, humanism, and others
3. will understand the two basic types of behavior conditioning - classical and operant

5. will review group dynamics
6. will examine the world of abnormal psychology
7. will become familiar with various theories concerning psychosocial development
8. will explore the world of sleep and dreams
9. will have the opportunity to research a psychological or para-psychological subject of their choosing and present it to the other students
10. will keep an insightful journal about relative issues concerning students and people today.
