The student’s school will be responsible for downloading and providing a variety of software which will include, but is not limited to, Kompozer (web authoring software which will be used for the entire course), Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Skype, a free Web Site Host, a school provided OR free graphics program, a school provided OR free gif animation program, audio and video utilization and the ability to scan.

Description:
Through collaborative and individual activities, you will gain historical background, explore the current status of web design, and take a peek into what the future holds. You'll examine the relationships between goals, audience, content, and function of web sites. You will learn how to effectively plan both basic and advanced design elements, including typography, graphics, audio, video, and animation, in order to develop a web site that appeals to both client and audience alike. You will learn to work with a client, solicit feedback from your audience, and respond to suggestions from many spheres.

This course will explore artistic and functional principles of design, the development process, working with a client, and the technical development of a final web product. The skills you develop in this course will expand your understanding of the World Wide Web and its many elements. This course takes a wide perspective and should not be confused with courses that focus on learning to use specific web page authoring software.

*This course may be appropriate for Gifted and Talented middle school students that meet all course prerequisites.*

Course Objectives:
1. Students acquire knowledge of web design and development using a variety of media and technical processes.
2. Students identity and utilize the elements of design to create technically proficient and effective web projects based on researched interdisciplinary themes.
3. Students analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and respond to the intent, purpose,and technical proficiency of web sites.
4. Students compare and contrast differences in expression of common themes and in the use of visual elements, technical processes, and stylistic
elements on the Web in various cultures.
5. Students identify, describe, interpret, and analyze stylistic elements in web sites from the past as well as contemporary periods.
